The care home in Billinge, Wigan received an overall ‘Good’ green light rating following an inspection by the CQC, the independent regulator of health and social care in England.
Birchley was praised by inspectors for providing a safe, effective, caring and responsive service for residents.
Phil Whitaker, Managing Director of MBi Social Care, says: “To achieve a green rating is a tremendous achievement by Sue Lucas and all the team at Birchley.
“The rolling refurbishment we are carrying out at Birchley will ensure it continues to provide high standards of care.”
Registered Manager Sue Lucas says: “I would like to say a big thank you to all our staff for working so hard to adapt to all the recent changes and adopting new ways of working.”
As a token of appreciation, staff members will be presented with gift vouchers at a special thank you party.
The CQC report highlights many areas of good practice across Birchley, and praises the caring environment.
It says: “People and family members were provided with information about the expectations of the service.
“People's privacy, dignity and independence was respected and promoted. Staff were kind and patient and they showed a good understanding of people's needs.
“People's needs were understood by staff and met in a timely way…and were confident that any concerns they had would be dealt with properly.”
Policies and procedures guided staff on best practice and codes of conduct, while day-to-day management of the service was supportive and inclusive.
There were enough staff on duty to keep people safe, and robust procedures were followed to ensure staff were recruited safely.
Birchley provides accommodation for people who require personal care including those with dementia, physical disabilities and sensory impairments.
